Sheet Geek Privacy Policy

Sheet Geek runs inside your AI app or on your own computer. Its code makes no network calls and has no tracking. Actual Intelligence Labs never receives your spreadsheets, your answers or the brain it writes.

Effective October 2, 2026. This policy covers the Sheet Geek skill and plugin, made by Actual Intelligence Labs, LLC ("we"). Visiting our website, including this page, is covered by our main Privacy Policy; the site uses Google Analytics.

What Sheet Geek Processes

Sheet Geek reads the spreadsheets you share with it or name, and the answers you type to its questions. If a spreadsheet holds personal data, such as names, emails or phone numbers, Sheet Geek reads that data in order to describe the sheet. All of this happens in your AI app's workspace or on your computer.

In Claude Code, Sheet Geek also runs two hooks. At the start of a session, one tells Claude which files in the folder have a saved brain. When a message names a spreadsheet that has a brain, the other adds that brain's notes to the conversation, including notes kept on this machine only. What they add becomes part of your conversation with your AI provider.

What Goes Into the Brain

The brain holds what each column means, rules, counted totals and findings, and your answers. Code masks the email addresses and phone numbers it finds, and does not list the values of columns whose header marks them as people. Names can still appear: a column of customer, client, guest or patient names under another header, the person or customer with the largest total in a counted note, or an example code. Check the preview before you save into a file you will share, or share a copy without the brain.

Sentences that code flags as private stay on your machine, such as one marked "between us" or "confidential". It is a word filter and misses many remarks about people's health, jobs or deals, so read every line in the preview before anything is written, or keep the brain on this machine only.

Sheet Geek is not designed for health records, payment card data, government ID numbers or passwords. Please don't use it with them.

What We Collect

Through Sheet Geek itself: nothing. It has no account, no analytics, no telemetry and no usage tracking, and it sends nothing to us.

If you contact us for support, we receive your email address, any name you give, and your message. If you open an issue on GitHub, it is public and hosted by GitHub under GitHub's own privacy statement.

How Data Is Used

On your side, Sheet Geek uses your spreadsheet and your answers only to build the brain, the map and the exports you ask for. We use support messages only to answer you and to fix Sheet Geek. We do not sell data, show ads, or use your data to train AI models.

Who Receives Data

Your AI provider. Sheet Geek runs inside an AI app you choose, such as ChatGPT or Claude. That provider processes your conversation and the files you share under its own terms and privacy policy, for example OpenAI's or Anthropic's.

People you send the file to. The brain travels with the file (for a CSV, in the .brain.json file next to it, if you send that too). Anyone who gets the file can read it, even if the tab is hidden. Sheet Geek can make a copy without the brain, or without business-sensitive notes, before you send it.

Web search, only if you say yes. Web research is off by default. Before any search, code checks it against the text values in the data tables and the file and tab names, and marks any search containing one as blocked. Your AI app runs only the searches that pass, with its own web tool, after you say yes.

Our email provider. Support emails are stored in our business email account, hosted by Google Workspace under Google's privacy policy.

How Long Data Is Kept

The brain. Stays in your file until you remove it. For a CSV, it is a separate file next to it whose name ends in .brain.json. Ask your AI to remove the brain, or delete the tab (for a CSV, that file).

The local index. Private notes, raw answers, a profile of each sheet with a few sample values, a copy of each brain's notes, a log of what it did, the spreadsheets it has worked on, and backups (the five newest per file) stay in a folder named .sheet-geek in your home folder (.spreadsheet-brain if you used the tool before version 0.2.1) until you delete it. In hosted apps such as ChatGPT, that folder is in the app's temporary workspace, and the provider's own policy covers how long it lasts.

Support messages. Kept for up to 24 months after the conversation ends, then deleted, unless the law requires us to keep them longer.

Your Controls

Choose where each brain is saved: a visible tab, a hidden tab, or this machine only
Mark a sentence "between us" to keep it off the file, and release a private remark into the file only when you choose
Read every line in the preview before anything is written
Remove a brain from a file at any time
Delete the .sheet-geek folder, and any .brain.json files next to your CSVs, to erase what Sheet Geek keeps
Share a copy without the brain, or without business-sensitive notes
Say no to web research, which is off unless you approve it
Email us to see or delete the support messages we hold about you

Children

Sheet Geek is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.

Changes and Contact

If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above and describe material changes on this page.
